Innovation in Action: VCTC Success Stories
We take immense pride in the work we do here at VCTC, and we’d like to take a moment to reflect on some of our successes from the past year.
Below is a snapshot of a few key projects that highlight our commitment to overcoming complex clinical challenges with innovative, patient-first solutions. From virtual trials to rare disease programs, these mini case studies showcase our expertise, adaptability, and dedication to excellence in clinical research.

Case Study 1
Advancing Virtual Clinical Trials: A Phase 4 CTIMP Success Story
Key Achievements:
- Zero participants lost to follow-up
- 100% investigational product (IP) shipment compliance
- Trial completed 4 months ahead of schedule
This virtual Phase 4 trial, focused on an over-the-counter cold treatment, required fast-paced recruitment and stringent compliance under tight timelines. In just four weeks, we enrolled 125 participants across the UK—far ahead of the original 16-week target.
To achieve these results, we relied on a dedicated, medic-led team to provide oversight at all stages. Rapid engagement was key, with participants being contacted within one hour of registration. We also streamlined logistics, ensuring that investigational product shipments were dispatched within one hour of enrolment, followed by daily participant follow-ups.
The outcome was a resounding success, with zero dropouts, demonstrating the effectiveness of our participant-focused approach and streamlined processes.

Innovation in Neurological Trials: Multi-Centre Parkinson's Disease Study
Key Achievements:
- 100 participants recruited three months ahead of schedule
- High-touch communication model ensured positive participant experiences
This observational trial aimed to compare a novel software-based platform with existing Parkinson’s Disease clinical tools. Despite recruitment challenges, including budget constraints and a lack of direct benefit to participants, VCTC was able to complete recruitment ahead of schedule.
Our approach involved working closely with a Parkinson’s Disease nurse and consultant neurologist to ensure expertise was embedded throughout the trial. We also partnered with NHS Patient Identification Centers to facilitate recruitment and maintain strong connections with participants. Throughout the study, we kept participants supported with a 24/7 accessible study team to address concerns.
The result was a trial completed ahead of schedule with high participant retention and overwhelmingly positive feedback, demonstrating VCTC’s flexibility and capacity to adapt in challenging environments.

Case Study 3
Empathetic Care in Rare Disease Research: UK Based Ultra Rare Disease Study
Key Achievements:
- Retention of all patients enrolled
- Seamless management of complex cross-border logistics
Our Ultra Rare Disease Study was designed to support patients with an ultra-rare disease, providing them with access to treatment before drug registration. VCTC managed the care of six participants, including those who had previously been lost to follow-up, ensuring their safety during an intensive monitoring phase and subsequent long-term self-administration.
In this program, we put patient-centered logistics front and center. By establishing community clinics and minimisingtravel burden, we ensured that participants received the care they needed without undue hardship. Tailored support was crucial; for example, we provided specialised needles and medication storage solutions based on individual patient needs.
We also coordinated complex cross-border referrals and logistics, ensuring that care delivery was seamless across international borders. The outcome was exceptional, with all participants successfully enrolled and retained, and high satisfaction levels reflecting our personalised, human-led approach.
