How VCTC's Is Serving Patients & Sponsors Alike Through Continued Growth & Development
There is no denying it, VCTC has been on a rapid upward trajectory since its inception in 2022. Over the past three years, we have continuously looked to how we can better serve patients in their own communities – opening three physical trial site locations, as well as an Oxford-based pharmacy, across the UK to complement our decentralized clinical trial (DCT) design approach.
These physical sites, along with our community-based, flexible, pop-up site and virtual site capabilities, has resulted in bringing more trials to more patients in their own communities. And by having total oversight of our own clinical trial sites, we are able to not just support patients in their own communities, we can do so during the times and on the days that enable them to physically attend appointments. This minimizes the burdens of time and logistics that impact patients attending a traditional clinical trial site.
It is not only in the UK that VCTC is looking to affect change in the clinical trial landscape – VCTC plans to open a research facility in Barcelona, Spain. While the Catalonian region is experiencing a boom in biotech and is a popular location for clinical trials, VCTC understands that many of the same challenges for patients remain. Our decentralized approach, again combined with a physical research site, empowers patients in the community to enroll and remain engaged in clinical trials through to completion.
At the start of 2025, VCTC joined the Medical Research Network (MRN) - a global leader in decentralized and community-based clinical trial delivery – through acquisition. MRN and VCTC share the same vision – making access to clinical trials accessible for patients by removing the barriers and blockers to their full participation, while also ensuring that sponsors receive quality, real-world data that enables them to bring much needed medicines and therapies to market, faster.
While VCTC continues to operate as an individual entity, we now have access to MRN’s resources, knowledgebase and additional support as needed. By working alongside MRN, we’re able to tap into MRN’s DCT solutions to further enhance the services we already offer – which ultimately allows us to offer patients and sponsors more flexibility.
For sponsors, we’re now able to offer a full suite of solutions that can be combined to build a trial that works not only for their protocol, but also their timeline – with services that reach more patients, from more diverse backgrounds, and enrolls them faster and retains them for the duration of the trial. Trials designed with these services are specifically designed with the patient’s experience at the forefront.
By combining services such as physical trial visits at our community or satellite sites, with in-home visits provided by MRN’s Home Trial Support (HTS) solution, we’re able to alleviate logistical and time burdens on patients by making both at-site and in-home visits as convenient as possible. This creates an experience where the trial is fits around the patient’s life, and not the other way around.
It is only through continued development, growth and innovation that VCTC has been able to make an impact on the clinical trial landscape so quickly. And it doesn’t stop here – we’re committed to continue to work with MRN to drive patient equity while supporting sponsors in their development of game-changing medicines and therapies.
